RL Tankless Models: Select by Winter Flow and Installation Type
RL models are gas-fired non-condensing tankless water heaters that heat domestic water as it flows through the appliance. The listed RL75 and RL94 variants differ by capacity, indoor or outdoor configuration and fuel type.
Narrow the model before comparing price
The suffix and operating conditions matter as much as the series name. These decisions establish which models can realistically serve the project.
Winter delivery
Compare flow at the required temperature rise. Cold Toronto inlet water reduces the flow available at a selected hot-water temperature compared with warm-inlet headline ratings.
Indoor configuration
An indoor model requires its approved combustion-air and exhaust arrangement. Do not assume the existing tank heater's chimney or vent can be reused.
Outdoor configuration
An outdoor listing is not automatically suitable for year-round GTA installation. Verify Canadian approval, climate limits and freeze-protection requirements before considering it.
Compare usable demand, not maximum flow alone
Add the hot-water demand of fixtures likely to run together and review the manufacturer's performance curve. A higher maximum flow does not guarantee every shower and filling task can operate simultaneously in winter.
Confirm natural-gas or propane specification and the complete generation. Recirculation capability, controls and venting must be verified from the chosen model's documentation; non-condensing RL equipment should not inherit features from newer condensing families.
Include venting and gas work in the replacement quote
A tank-to-tankless conversion may require gas-line assessment, electrical supply, approved vent routing, water-pipe changes and service valves. The heater's connection size alone is not a gas-pipe sizing calculation.
For replacement, inspect existing vent components and water condition before retaining them. Include access for flushing and inlet-filter care, and confirm parts and model availability for older listings. A low equipment price can be outweighed by a difficult vent route.
Build a winter-based model comparison
Bring fixture information and photographs of the current installation. These checks support a more accurate equipment and installation proposal.
RL model checklist
- Record simultaneous hot-water demand.
- Compare flow at winter temperature rise.
- Verify indoor or outdoor model suitability.
- Confirm fuel type and gas capacity.
- Review approved vent route and power.
- Include service valves and maintenance access.
Choose the RL model using verified demand and site requirements. Compare a non-condensing replacement with alternatives on total installation scope, not appliance price alone.
