RU Models: Compare Condensing Tankless Configurations
RU models are gas-fired condensing tankless water heaters that supply domestic hot water on demand. This collection includes indoor RU160 and RU180 listings alongside older outdoor RU80, RU90 and RU98 variants, so model identity is essential to selection.
Compare configuration before nominal capacity
The same family name can span different generations and installation types. Use these factors to establish which listing suits the project.
Indoor or outdoor
Match the appliance approval to the intended location. An outdoor e-model should not be treated as an indoor substitute or automatically suitable for GTA winter exposure.
Winter flow
Compare output at the required rise from cold inlet to delivery temperature. Maximum published flow does not establish simultaneous winter fixture capacity.
Recirculation
Confirm whether a pump, compatible controls and return arrangement are included or separately required. RU naming alone is not proof of an integrated pump.
Keep generation-specific features separate
Older numbered RU outdoor models and later indoor SENSEI equipment can have different venting, controls and service arrangements. Do not transfer current RX or RXP functions to an RU listing.
Verify the complete fuel-specific code, Canadian availability and performance data. Compare efficiency using equivalent rating methods, without converting the difference into a guaranteed household saving.
Include condensate and utility work
A condensing installation needs approved exhaust and combustion-air arrangements, condensate handling and suitable water and gas connections. The gas pipe must be assessed for the complete installation, not selected from connection diameter alone.
For a Toronto replacement, review retained venting and existing recirculation equipment against the new manual. Price removal, electrical work, service valves and commissioning together. Maintenance access and water-quality requirements should be part of the proposal before the wall location is finalized.
Compare complete RU installations
Bring the existing nameplate and household fixture demand. These checks help narrow the applicable models and supporting work.
RU configuration checklist
- Verify full code, fuel and generation.
- Confirm indoor or outdoor site suitability.
- Size using winter temperature rise.
- Identify recirculation components separately.
- Review venting and condensate drainage.
- Include gas assessment and service access.
Choose the RU configuration through a demand and site assessment. Confirm current supply and compare the whole installed package with suitable alternatives.
